What's New
Build 187 (10-14), on TestFlight for Beta Testers
Races and leaderboards
- Every race course now has an Easy and a Hard sea. The waves are the same for everyone, so race times can be compared.
- Race courses are about 5 minutes long, and the conditions line shows wave heights in feet.
- Game Center leaderboards for all 5 race courses, Easy and Hard (10 boards). Tap Leaderboards on the race finish screen.
- Game Center is optional. If it asks you to sign in at launch, you can cancel. Your personal bests are still saved on the phone.
Pump mode (new)
- The Pump button is now a slider, shaped like a backwards L. Slide left to paddle, or hold at the corner and slide up to pump.
- Thumb down compresses (deep squat). Thumb up extends and pushes the board. Hold at the top to glide.
- Timing pays: compress slowly and extend fast. Good pumping holds speed on flat water, up to 20 mph.
- Extend on the face of a bump (coming over the back of it) and you can push past your normal top speed.
- Haptics build through the up-stroke, like leg resistance, and a good stroke at low speed gives a visible surge.
- You can go straight from paddling to pumping without lifting your thumb.
- Lift your thumb and the rider eases back into the normal stance over about a second.
- The board rises and dips with each pump, a little behind the rider, like a real pump foil.
- New pump animation from real pump-foil video: knees over toes, narrower stance, both hands low on the paddle.
Paddling and controls
- The paddle and pump slider respond at human speed. Slide too fast and you feel a ratchet buzz.
- After a stroke, the paddle eases back to the carry over about a second instead of snapping.
Surf stance and rider moves
- The SURF button puts the rider into surf stance again. Builds 184 and 185 had broken it; 186 fixed it.
- Surf SUP left turn is now a hand-edited pose. The right arm and hand match it.
- In surf stance the feet stay planted through left-right switches. The front foot no longer lifts.
- Smoother arms and rails: arms can't whip around faster than a real arm, and the rail tilt lets go smoothly at the end of the takeoff stroke.
Seas and routes
- Every route opens on a fun default sea: two swells of 5 ft or more, running along the course.
- Swells follow each route's start-to-finish line. Before, some routes had swells up to 75 degrees off.
- Coast sheltering is off by default.
Riders
- New riders: Homie, Chloe and Nipple Ring new (candidates).
- New installs start with Angus.
Names
- Courses: Glassy Groundswell Reef, Tourist Bay, Tourist Bay to TourBus Beach, Outer Hawaii foil playground.
- Riders: Core Lord, Metalhead, Angus, Nipple Ring.
- Board lengths and practice routes follow your units setting (feet and miles).
Still to come
- Build 188 drops the Game Center sign-in at launch. You'll only be asked when you tap Post to Game Center on a race finish.
